Brian Hayes, Asst. Dean for Student Outreach

Brian Hayes is Assistant Dean for Student Outreach and Engagement within the College of Communication, Information, and Media. In this role, Hayes coordinates and plans programs to inspire the next generation of storytellers, communicators and media professionals. Prior to joining the Ball State faculty in 2005, Hayes taught journalism at Lawrence North HS in Indianapolis and worked as a news designer and graphics editor at several newspapers including the News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C.

Hayes earned his Bachelor’s in Journalism Graphics (‘96), Master’s in Journalism (‘02) and Master’s in School Administration and Supervision (‘10), all from Ball State.

His contributions to journalism education have been recognized at both the state and national levels, most prominently through working with the Indiana High School Press Association, the Indiana Department of Education and the Journalism Education Association, a national organization for journalism educators.
